With increasing attention being paid by policy makers, utilities and customers to demand side management options, there is also increasing confusion as to what are the differences and similarities between energy efficiency and demand response. Questions are being asked as to how energy efficiency can be best used to manage peak demand and also how demand response and its enabling technologies can yield or support energy efficiency. There are also questions about whether or how demand response might impact the environment.
This latest Webinar in the DRCC Webinar Series will try to address those questions and will feature three speakers:
David Nemtzow served for 12 years as President of the Alliance to Save Energy, the leading energy efficiency non-profit organization in the U.S. More recently, he served as the Director General of the Department of Energy Utilities and Sustainability (DEUS) of New South Wales, Australia. David will discuss some of the ways that energy efficiency and demand response complement each other and he will provide a framework for how to think about demand response and efficiency in a comparative sense.
Lynn Sutcliffe is the CEO of EnergySolve, a leading provider of innovative energy efficiency and demand response services to customers. A former General Counsel to the U.S. Senate Commerce Committee, Lynn became one of the founding partners of Van Ness, Feldman, Sutcliffe and Curtis, a firm nationally recognized for its work in energy policy and law. Subsequently, he became a leader in the energy service company industry, and served several terms as President of the National Association of Energy Service Companies (NAESCO). Lynn will talk about how EnergySolve is integrating efficiency and DR for customers to allow them to maximize their technology investments and their energy management savings.
Henry Yoshimura is the Manager of Demand Response for ISO-New England with responsibility for the development and deployment of demand response initiatives for the New England wholesale electricity market. Before joining ISO in 2002, Henry spent two years in Jakarta, Indonesia as a Government advisor on electricity sector regulation and restructuring. Prior to that, he was Director of the Electric Power Division for the MA Department of Telecommunications and Energy. Henry will talk about the intensive effort he led in recent months to develop new rules for the integration of demand resources (both efficiency and demand response) into the new Forward Capacity Market (FCM) in the region.
