Demand Response - Tales from Two States
2006 - A Watershed Year for Demand Response?

Friday,  July 20, 2020
1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. (EST)

The summer of 2006 was one of the hottest on record, and that led to record demand for power during peak periods.  As electricity providers examined all of their options for meeting that peak demand, demand response was prominent in their considerations and selections.

Earlier this year, a team of researchers headed up by experts from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory took on the task of trying to answer a number of questions:

How did DR resources perform in 2006?
Was 2006 really a turning point for industry acceptance and integration of DR resources?
What lies ahead for DR based on what happened in 2006?

To help them answer these and other questions, the researchers interviewed representatives from sixteen utilities, six ISOs/RTOs, three load aggregators, and several regulatory staff and consultants. The team's Report:  The Summer of 2006: A Milestone in the ongoing Maturation of Demand Response was issued in May, 2007.

The next offering in the DRCC Webinar Series will address the results of this latest demand response research.  The leader of the Research Team from LBNL will present an overview of the research, to be followed by representatives of ISO-New England, NYISO, PJM Interconnection and Midwest ISO will serve as respondents and offer comments.

Presenter:

Chuck Goldman          Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory

Respondents:

     Henry Yoshimura, ISO-New England

     Gary Brown, NYISO

     Susan Covino, PJM Interconnection

     Sherman Elliott, Midwest ISO

In addition to commenting on the new research results, the ISO/RTO representatives will be given an opportunity to update Webinar attendees on the latest developments on demand response at their respective organizations for the summer of 2007.
