Webinar Description:
This Webinar featureed speakers from government agencies and non-profit organizations that are doing important, yet sometimes unknown, work to advance the development and deployment of smart grid technologies and smart grid practices like demand response.  Featured were:

U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA)
National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST)
North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)
North American Energy Standards Board (NASEB)

Each speaker explained what information, data, and resources they have that would be helpful for DR and smart grid professionals to know about.

Things that you maybe did not know but learned on this Webinar:
  • Did you know that NIST is not a standards setting organization?  Do you know what SGIP stands for?  Do you know the difference between SGIP and NIST?

  • Did you know that the federal Energy Information Administration is collecting new smart grid and demand response information that could be essential to utilities, policymakers, and DR & SG companies to use in their respective efforts?

  • Did you know that NERC was designated by Congress as the official entity in the U.S. to be responsible for ensuring the reliability of the grid?  Did you know that NERC is instituting a new data collection system (affectionately know as DADS) that many in the DR&SG community will have to comply with?

  • Did you know that NAESB has been hard at work developing things like Measurement and Verification Standards for SG and DR (at both the wholesale and retail level) that will likely see wide-scale adoption?

Speakers:
Clyde Melton
, Engineer, Reliability Performance Analysis - North American Electric Reliability Corporation (NERC)
