DR group honors three for advancing the cause
July 12, 2020
Two individuals and a group are slated to win leadership awards today from the Assn for DR & Smart Grid (ADS), that organization told the press yesterday. Receiving awards for “moving states and the nation toward development of a smart grid and activities like DR” are Sherman Elliott, commissioner of the Illinois Commerce Commission; all who have served as president of the NY State Energy R&D Authority (NYSERDA); and Art Rosenfeld, of the Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. The awards are to be presented at the National Town Meeting on DR and Smart Grid in Washington, DC.
Elliott was an ADS founding member who has been “a strong advocate for DR and smart grid in recent years” at the Illinois commission, Dan Delurey, ADS executive director, said in prepared remarks. NYSERDA's presidents have led that organization to stand out “for many years for its support of not just traditional energy efficiency but also DR -- something that puts it ahead of other states,” Delurey said. Rosenfeld has done “pioneering work” in energy efficiency, he said.
ADS is a nonprofit organization originally formed as the Demand Response Coordinating Committee in 2004. It consists of DR and smart grid organizations and individuals who consider themselves professionals in those fields, the group said.
Expected to gather for today's National Town Meeting, which runs through Thursday, are Congress members, environmental groups, federal and state agencies, ISOs, R&D firms, technology companies and utilities, ADS said. This year, an entire day -- today -- will be devoted to discussions on how to implement DOE and FERC's national action plan on DR and smart grid (SGT, Jul-07).
